Team Njord

From a stack of aluminum plate to a finished hull: built by hand, welded to spec, and documented every step of the way.

The capstone

A real boat, built to a real plan

Team Njord is a group of welding students at Everett Community College. For its WELD 231 capstone, the team took on a full marine fabrication project: a half-scale aluminum skiff cut from plate, shaped and fitted by hand, and welded end to end with TIG (GTAW). The aim was to prove the team can read detailed fabrication drawings and follow them from the first cut to a finished, fair hull.

The class also toured All American Marine, a Bellingham shipyard, for a firsthand look at aluminum boatbuilding at a professional scale.
